Adirondack Mountain Rescue is not a regionally-based search and rescue team. We go where we are needed. While our primary area of operations are Upstate New York and New England, we can operate in other areas for searches and in times of disaster or national emergency as needed.

What is an Active Field Member?

Active Field Members are Adirondack Mountain Rescue members that are eligible to be deployed in the wilderness. They are held to a high training standard to ensure the safety and efficiency of the team. There are many positions within Adirondack Mountain Rescue that are not Active Field Member positions that may be stationed at Incident Command or in vehicles performing team duties.

Are there training and fitness requirements for Active Field Members?

Yes, there are baseline skills and fitness requirements that prospective Active Field Members will have to complete before being cleared to take part in an active search operation. Adirondack Mountain Rescue values the safety of our team and those we are tasked to help. Our requirements prevent having an incident within an incident. Adirondack Mountain Rescue Training Officers have the final decision on individual readiness. Training for field operations will be provided to all Adirondack Mountain Rescue team members by in-house, industry or first response experts.
